DOVER (April 21, 2008) – Service Credit Union booth and prize wheel attracted many at the Kids Fest at the Dover Arena in April.

Hundreds of children from New Hampshire and Maine area came to enjoy the festivities and spin the prize wheel for one of the many Service Credit Union prizes.

PORTSMOUTH (May 12, 2008) __ More than 150 children took part in The Children’s Museum of Portsmouth Annual Fun Run on Saturday, May 3 on the grounds of Strawbery Banke Museum.

Several races were held from a 50-yard dash to a ¼ mile run and Service Credit Union was there as a finish-line sponsor.

Service Credit Union President/CEO receives national award

Simmons received this distinguished honor at the 36th Annual Defense Credit Union Council’s Overseas Subcouncil Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland in April.

Service Credit Union captures two national awards

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (April 4, 2008)--- Service Credit Union received two major honors at the Diamond Awards ceremony Tuesday, March 18 during the CUNA (Credit Union National Association) Marketing and Business Development council’s 15 annual conference in Nashville, Tenn.

Participating with 1,500 entries from 300 credit unions across the United States and Canada, Service Credit Union was awarded The Top Diamond Award for Best Website Marketing and the Diamond Merit Award for Segmented Marketing. The merit honor was given to the credit union for its customized kit to support military member relocation.

In both categories, Service Credit Union entered in the largest asset classification of greater than $1 billion and all marketing materials were internally generated by credit union employees.

Service Credit Union holds ribbon-cutting ceremony

Pease Greeters recognize Service Credit Union

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (April 9, 2008) --- The Pease Greeters recently acknowledged Service Credit Union for its continual support of their program to welcome and honor military personnel landing at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease.

Since its inception in 2005, the Pease Greeters have welcomed 168 flights including 29 this year no matter what time of the day. Ed Johnson, chairman of the Pease Greeters, said the nonprofit organization, meets flights coming in from and going out for deployment.

Service Credit Union Opens In-Store Branch in Epping Wal-Mart

EPPING, N.H. (March 31, 2008) --- Service Credit Union opened a new full-service branch inside the Epping Wal-Mart on March 10. The Epping branch is the sixth of seven branches planned to open in New Hampshire’s Wal-Mart stores. Portsmouth 8th Graders Learn How to Make Financial Decisions in Real World
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (March 26, 2008) --- More than 150 8th grade students from Portsmouth Middle School learned about budgeting and financial decision-making at a recent CU 4 Reality Fair™ held in Manchester, N.H. The event was sponsored by Service Credit Union.
CU 4 Reality is a program cooperatively developed across a number of credit unions in New Hampshire. The program uses an in-class curriculum during the school year to teach participants important skills that will equip them to handle money responsibly, set and adhere to budgets, and avoid the pitfalls of debt.  The program culminates with a simulated real-world CU 4 Reality Fair, where the student participants create a spending plan based on a salary, and balance needs versus wants, to make sure they are living within their means.

Governor John Lynch along with other dignitaries praise Service Credit Union for their years of serving others

Mr. Gordon Simmons, President/CEO of Service Credit Union presented the check to NH Food Bank Director Melanie Gosselin following the weigh-in on November 21st at 11:30 am at the 62 West Brook Street location in Manchester. The amount was known only by Mr. Simmons and the Board of Directors, but was expected to exceed the credit union’s donation last year of $25,000.00.

Service Credit Union Sponsors Ghosts on the Banke

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (October 29, 2007) --- Service Credit Union sponsored the eighth annual Ghosts on the Banke Halloween celebration this past weekend at the Strawbery Banke Museum.  Tellers from the Portsmouth and Pease branches dressed as witches and passed out child safety reflectors from their caldron in the form of witches and ghosts, to promote safe trick or treating.  The grounds and historic houses of the museum were transformed with jack-o-‘lanterns, wondering old ghosts and hundreds of lights, lighting the way for children to trick or treat, listen to music by the bonfire or take a wagon ride.

Service Credit Union Donates Supplies to Rochester School System

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (September 10, 2007) --- Service Credit Union will make a presentation of school supplies to the Rochester School District Principals and Superintendent at the School Board Meeting on Thursday September 13 at 7 p.m. in City Council Hall at 31 Wakefield Street in Rochester. The credit union met with the Extended Schools Program and Volunteer Office and developed a wish list for Rochester students based on the community needs.  Service Credit Union CFO Scott Wensley will present the Rochester School System with more than 500 sets of colored pencils, binders, and spiral notebooks provided by Service Credit Union. The credit union will also present 150 backpacks for varying ages, stuffed with hats and mittens for elementary students.

Defense Credit Union Council Names Gordon Simmons Chairman of the Board

Service Credit Union Collects 1300 lbs of Food for Food Bank Plus Makes $30,000.00 Donation

Service Credit Union Donates $20,000 to New Hampshire Air Force Memorial

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (November 7, 2007) --- Service Credit Union presented the New Hampshire chapters of the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) and the Air Force Association (AFA) with a check of $15,000 for the NH Air Force Memorial Fund, bringing their total donation to $20,000.  The credit union launched the campaign in February with $5,000. The AFSA and AFA are building a memorial to honor all New Hampshire men and women who have served in the United States Air Force at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscowan, NH.  A ground breaking ceremony for the memorial is planned for Sunday November 11th at the cemetery after the 11:00 a.m. Veterans Day ceremonies.

Service Credit Union Pledges $20,000 Match to Build Air Force Monument in New Hampshire and Kicks off Campaign with $5,000 Donation

(February 7, 2007) --- With a $5,000 donation, Service Credit Union kicked off the fund raising campaign of the New Hampshire chapters of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Air Force Association. The organizations plan to build a memorial to honor all New Hampshire men and women who have served in the United States Air Force. The memorial is to be erected at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscowan, NH. It will honor all of those who have served in the Air Force, the AF Reserve, the NH Air National Guard and all members of former U.S. Army Air Service.
