Service Credit Union wants you to be informed about identity theft and be knowledgeable about the steps that you can take to protect yourself from becoming a victim.

"I was a victim of identity theft and did not know it until I attempted to open an account at a local bank and was told that my credit report showed an $8,000.00 overdrawn account with another financial institution. I never had an account with that institution. After investing many hours of my own time, I found out that a relative had fraudulently opened this account using my personal information and deposited a counterfeit check. Since the account was opened with my information, it was reported and appeared on my credit report. It took me months to clear this up, affected my ability to do business with other financial institutions, and affected my credit."
