Recent federal regulations now require members to opt in to participate in Courtesy Pay for everyday debit card transactions. Courtesy Pay automatically covers checks, debit ACH payments and recurring debit transactions on eligible checking accounts.

Courtesy Pay Overdraft fees are $19 with direct deposit and $24 without direct deposit. Service Credit Union will never charge you a fee for everyday debit card transaction overdrafts until your negative balance exceeds $25, if you opt in.

Courtesy Pay
Service Credit Union understands that the unexpected can occur for you and your account. Courtesy Pay can ensure you have the money you need when you need it, even when you don't have enough in your account. Although we don't encourage you to overdraw your account, Service Credit Union does offer your protection to help eliminate the embarrassment or inconvenience of those situations.
What is Courtesy Pay?
Courtesy Pay is an overdraft service on your checking account. With a checking account with direct deposit, you will have $1,000 in Courtesy Pay and without direct deposit $500 in Courtesy Pay starting July 1st. There is no fee to opt in to Courtesy Pay.
Service Credit Union standard overdraft practices include authorization of the following:
• Checks, including in-person withdrawals, and other transactions made using your checking account number.
• Recurring debit card transactions – Example: Monthly auto insurance payment or health club membership debited automatically using your debit card number.
• ACH debits
You must opt in to receive the following overdraft protection:
• Everyday debit card transactions – Example: Using your debit card at point of sale to purchase a cup of coffee, lunch, or a retail item.
How does Courtesy Pay work?
Courtesy Pay is used to cover items that would otherwise be returned as Non-Sufficient Funds. NSF would incur a higher fee. If you overdraw your account, Courtesy Pay will cover written checks or preauthorized drafts written to third parties, ACH debits and recurring debit card transactions. If you choose to opt in, Courtesy Pay will also cover everyday debit card transactions.
Do I have to opt in to so I won't be charged a fee by Service Credit Union for everyday debit card transaction overdrafts of $25 or less?
If you opt in, Service Credit will never charge a fee on Courtesy Pay for everyday debit card transaction overdrafts until your negative balance exceeds $25. If you do not opt in, your everyday debit card transactions will be immediately declined if you do not have sufficient funds in your checking account.
How do I get Courtesy Pay?
You must opt in for Courtesy Pay to apply to everyday debit card transactions. You can use the online form to complete the process. For checks, ACH debits and recurring debit card transaction in eligible checking accounts, Courtesy Pay is automatically applied.
What if I do not want Courtesy Pay?
You can choose not to opt in to receive Courtesy Pay for everyday debit card transactions.
Can Courtesy Pay be taken away?
Yes. The privilege can be taken away if your account is no longer in good standing as defined by the credit union. Eligibility is based on you managing your account in a responsible manner.
Is there other Overdraft Protection?
Yes, Share Transfer Overdraft Protection (S.T.O.P.) allows Service Credit Union to transfer money from your primary savings account to cover checking account overdrafts. Transfers are made in $100 increments for a nominal fee. These transfers will be included in the federally regulated limit of 6 transfers per month.
When does Courtesy Pay increase begin?
With a checking account with direct deposit, you will have $1,000 in Courtesy Pay and without direct deposit $500 in Courtesy Pay starting July 1st. Beginning June 1 for new checking accounts, there is a 30-day waiting period.
